HB 1, sponsored by Rep. Kaylee Tuck, R-Lake Placid, would establish scholarships in the form of education savings accounts (ESA) for any student that is a Florida resident and eligible to enroll in K-12 in a public school. The ESA would be state-funded and eligible uses include tuition and fees at a private school, transportation to a public school, instructional materials, and part-time tutoring services. FCCB supports this measure that would empower all Florida families to choose the best educational settings for their school-aged children. On Thursday, January 26, the House Choice & Innovation Subcommittee passed the bill. Catholic school parent, Dasha Nixon, testified in support of HB 1 before the subcommittee. The bill goes next to the PreK-12 Appropriations Subcommittee.
