Members of the Sadowski Coalition - representing a diverse group of organizations including: advocates for elderly, veteran, homeless and special needs populations; faith-based organizations; and business associations - gathered at the Capitol to urge the Florida Legislature to use affordable housing trust fund monies as intended.
Through documentary stamps on real estate transactions, the Sadowski Act of 1992 established a dedicated revenue source to address affordable housing needs throughout Florida by funding construction and rehabilitation of housing, down payment assistance, and limited rental development. However, for many years, the legislature has swept a significant amount of affordable housing funds to general revenue for other projects.
In addition to addressing the critical shortage of affordable housing in Florida, full funding of the Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Fund will create over 30,000 jobs and more than $4 billion in positive economic impact in Florida.
