Governor Desantis has signed his first death warrant for the year. Ronald Heath, 64, is scheduled to die by lethal injection on February 10 at Florida State Prison. Heath was convicted of the 1989 robbery and first-degree murder of Michael Sheridan in Alachua County. We mourn the loss of Mr. Sheridan and grieve for his family, but it is not necessary to take another life. The alternative of life without the possibility of parole is a severe punishment that will keep society safe.
In 2025, Florida executed 19 men, far exceeding the previous record of eight executions set in 1984 and again in 2014. If Heath's execution proceeds, it will mark the 29th execution under DeSantis.
As the execution date approaches, the FCCB will urge DeSantis to commute Heath's sentence and ask FLCAN subscribers to do the same. Be on the lookout for an action alert!
