The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops has joined the USCCB Committee on Catholic Education and numerous other entities in support of #EdTaxCredit50, an advocacy campaign proposing the creation and adoption of a national education tax credit program. In such a program, donations made to certain non-profit scholarship organizations would generate federal tax credits for individuals and corporations. This charitable activity would increase K-12 options for low and middle-income families, including the ability to send their children to faith-based and independent schools.
The FCCB regularly advocates for parental empowerment in education. In fact, Florida has long been a leader in school choice legislation and implementation. The national effort, #EdTaxCredit50, would help provide greater school choice opportunities not only in Florida but across the country.
The #EdTaxCredit50 campaign urges that final legislation should:
Apply to all fifty states
Provide scholarships for children from a variety of economic backgrounds
Allow the participation of mission-specific scholarship organizations, including those affiliated with religious institutions
Respect the autonomy of private schools to set academic standards, curricula, and student expectations
Respect religious liberty
