Five death row exonerees made a trip to the Capitol to deliver a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis. The letter from Witness to Innocence, an organization of exonerated survivors of death row, urges a halt to the execution of James Dailey. The exonerees, along with many others, believe Dailey to be innocent of the murder for which he was convicted and received a death sentence.
"As you know, each of us, and all of the other men who make up the 29 death row exonerees in Florida, are living proof that our court system does make mistakes," they wrote. "If innocent people can make it onto death row, what would prevent an innocent person from being executed."
The members of Witness to Innocence have reached out to the Governor's office on more than one occasion to request a meeting to discuss their concerns about the validity of Florida's death penalty system.
