TALLAHASSEE – Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops (FCCB) is pleased to announce that Christie Arnold has joined the staff as Associate for Social Concerns and Respect Life.
Arnold’s primary responsibility will be to serve as a professional resource person on public policy matters of concern to the bishops of Florida, representing the bishops on issues of human life, dignity and social justice before the legislative and executive branches of government and community organizations. She will also work closely with staff in Florida's seven Catholic dioceses through the activities of various committees of the FCCB.
Arnold brings valuable legal and human rights experience to the position. Most recently, she served as an attorney advisor for the Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review. Prior to her work with the federal government, she served for over two years as a staff attorney to Florida Supreme Court Justice Alan Lawson. While in law school, Arnold interned with the Orlando Immigration Court and the National Center on Sexual Exploitation in Washington, DC. She was also a policy fellow at the Polaris Project, a nonprofit entity that works to combat and prevent sex and labor trafficking. Additionally, Arnold volunteered with the pro-life movement and provided legal consulting for a pregnancy help center in Orlando.
“We are pleased that Christie has chosen to bring her knowledge and expertise to the FCCB. Her legal background and commitment to assisting marginalized populations will be a tremendous asset as she advocates for public policies that protect poor and vulnerable populations and ensure all Floridians have the opportunity to flourish,” said Michael B. Sheedy, executive director.
Arnold earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a minor in social and economic justice. She graduated cum laude from the Florida State University College of Law.
Arnold succeeds Ingrid Delgado who has taken a position with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC.
