Catholic Charities offices across the state have been collaborating with state and federal agencies and local community partners to assist populations affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Caseworkers are working with victims to help meet their needs, such as food and personal hygiene items, and temporary or permanent housing. Additionally, Catholic schools have been preparing to welcome students whose families have fled the damage and devastation of Puerto Rico. As the chair of Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), Gabe Tischler, emergency management specialist for the Florida Catholic Conference, is playing a key role in assessing capacity and organizing efforts of entities providing assistance to disaster victims.
The bishops of Florida are extremely grateful for the generous response to their appeals for disaster assistance. You can find information about making a donation to Catholic Charities to help the victims of the recent disasters by clicking here.
