TALLAHASSEE, FL – Raoul G. Cantero, III, former Florida Supreme Court Justice, was honored on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, with the Thomas A. Horkan, Jr. Distinguished Catholic Leader Award. The award was presented at the annual Catholic Days at the Capitol luncheon attended by the Catholic bishops of Florida, current Florida Supreme Court Justices, state lawmakers, and nearly 400 Catholic faithful from across the state.
On January 30 and 31, Catholics from across the state made the trip to Tallahassee to participate in Catholic Days at the Capitol. Advocacy efforts at this annual event can significantly impact the outcome of legislative proposals affecting the life and dignity of Florida's residents. This year, participants engaged the issues of Preganancy Support Services, the McKay Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilites and Death Penalty Repeal.
Catholic Days at the Capitol came to its official conclusion on the evening of January 31 with the 43rd annual Red Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More. The lay faithful, members of the Florida bench and bar, legislators, state agency officials, and others of good will joined the bishops in prayer and worship. Mass participants invoked the Holy Spirit, seeking divine inspiration and guidance for those who serve in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, and for members of the legal profession.
On April 4 and 5, Catholics from all seven Florida dioceses gathered in our state's capital city to learn, advocate, fellowship, and pray during Catholic Days at the Capitol. This annual advocacy event provides an opportunity to fulfill the responsibility to participate in political life as a faithful citizen. Catholics from across the state are urged to make the trip to the capitol and make a difference...and that they did!

The annual Catholic Days at the Capitol, a two-day advocacy event that provides opportunity to fulfill the responsibility to participate in political life, was held February 16 and 17. Prayer, nourishment, opening remarks and an explanation of two priority bills, were the focus on Tuesday afternoon. The 2016 issues of concern were Termination of Pregnancies and Unanimous Jury in Capital Sentencing.
